THE ANNISTON STAR, JANUARY 15,1998, OBITUARIES 



BEARDEN, Oxford, Al. Services for David Donald Bearden Sr. , 61, will be

Friday at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. David Vinson and

Earl Blanton officiating. Burial will be in Forestlawn Gardens Cemetery. Miller

Funeral Home is in charge. Mr. Bearden died Tuesday at Carraway Methodist

Hospital in Birmingham. Survivors include his wife, Judith Bearden ; his

mother, Mary Louise Bearden of Birmingham. ; four sons, David Donald Bearden

Jr. of Fortson, Ga., Stephen Michael Bearden of Pensacola, Fla., Robert Mark

Bearden of Greenville, S.C., and Jeffrey Lynn Bearden of Birmingham; two

brothers, Harold A. Bearden and George A Bearden both of Birmingham; eight

grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Mr. Bearden, a native of Huntsville,

was a resident of Oxford for the past 28 years. He was retired from the Anniston

Army Depot. He was a member of the Blue Springs Baptist Church . 



BULLOCK, Dunwoody, Ga. Services for Guy V. Bullock will be today at 1 p.m.(EST)at

Dunwoody United Methodist Church Chapel with Dr B. Wiley Stephens officiating.

Burial will be in Arlington Memorial Park in Northwest Atlanta. H. M.

Patterson& Son of Atlanta, Ga. is in charge of the arrangements. Mr.

Bullock died Tuesday. Survivors include his wife, Betty Watson Bullock; one

daughter, Lisa Bullock Brown; one son, Guy Watson Bullock; his mother, Mrs

James Tollie Bullock; five sisters, Willa Jo Estes, Annette Gill, Janie

Daugherty., Shirlee Smallwood and Sue Bowman; three brothers, Archie Ray

Bullock , James Thomas Bullock and John Mack Bullock; and one granddaughter,

Mr Bullock, a native of Calhoun County, was a Georgia State Convener for

Clan Donald, USA. He served in the United States Air Force and retired from

Texaco in 1985 after 26 years of service. He graduated from Piedmont High

School, 



BURKHALTER, Clay County, Al. Services for Bobby Hue Burkhalter, 53, will

be Friday at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland with Revs.

Robert A. Watts and James Matthew Wilcox officiating. Burial will follow

in New Prospect Cemetery Mr. Burkhalter died Wednesday at East Central Alabama

Medical Center in Opelika. Survivors include one son, Dewayne Burkhalter

of Jackson Gap;four sisters, Jeanelle Livingston and Glenda Queen, both of

Goodwater, Wynelle Ranson of Alex City and Marie Queen of Jackson Gap; six

brothers, Byron Burkhalter of Rockford, Larry Burkhalter and Windelle Burkhalter,

both of Ashland, WayneBurkhalter of Tallassee, Ross Hallman of Decatur and

Elvis Hallman of Hartsville; and two grandchilfren. Mr. Burkhalter was a

native and lifelong resident of Clay County . He was a Baptist. 



EVANS, Anniston,Al. Services for L.V. Evans will be announced by Ervin Funeral

Chapel. Mr. Evans died Wednesday at his home. 



HASTINGS, Roanoke, Al. Services for David Alan Hastings,67, will be Saturday

at 11 a.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Paul Howard officiating.

Mr. Hastings died Wednesday at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange. Survivors

include his wife, Barbara Conklin Hastings,; one daughter, Diana L. Darda

of Roanoke; two sons, Richard Alan Hastings of Lakeland, Fla., and Donald

L Hastings of Opelika; one sister, Dorothy Wood of Battle Creek, Mich.; one

brother, Johnny Hastings of South Bend, Ind.; four grandchildren and four

great-grandchildren. Mr. Hastings, a native of Battle Creek, Mich., was a

United States Air Force veteran and had been employed as a tool clerk. 



HORNE, Ashland, Al. Services for Sara Jo Pitts Horne, 73, will be today at

2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Thomas Pitts officiating.

Burial will be in Clay County Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs Horne died Tuesday

at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. Survivors include her husband, Claude E. Horne;

three daughters, Claudine Catalano of Ashland, Janelle Frost of Pelham and

Michelle Gober of Sycamore; five sisters, Freda Baker and June Boxx, both

of Lineville, Opal Johnson of Pensacola, Fla, Doris Boutwell of Brewton and

Elaine Wiggins of Contonement,Fla. ; four brothers, Paul Pitts of Pensacola,

Bobby Pitts of Gulfport, Miss., James Pitts of Las Vegas and Gary Pitts of

Ashland; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs Horne, a native

of Clay County, was a homemaker. She was a member of Brighton Baptist Church.





KEITH, Rockford, Ill. Services for Henry Lee Keith, 57, of Rockford Ill.,

formerly of Alpine, will be Friday at 1 p.m. at St Campbell Baptist Church

with Rev. Orlando Garrett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cenetery

with Sims Funeral Service in charge. Mr. Keith died Saturday in Rockford,

Ill. Survivors include tow sisters, Eloise Lovett of Rockford, Ill. and Myra

Chapman of Munford. LOVEJOY, Ranburne, Al. Services for Margaret Jane Holloway

Lovejoy,69, will be today at 2 p.m. at Union Hill Baptist Church with Revs.

Hugh Wearhers, W.E. Jones Jr. and W.M. Wiggins officiating. Burial will be

in Cleburne County Memory Garedn Cemetery with Rainwater-West Funeral Home

of Bowdon, Ga. in charge. Mrs Lovejoy died Tuesday at Piedmont Hospital .

Survivors include her husband, Walter Lovejoy ; one son, TonyFlournoy of

Ranburne; three daughters, Janice Norton of Ranburne, Joan Crawford of Bowdon

and Wanda Eidson of Carrollton, Ga.; three brothers, Edward Holloway of Bowdon,

Bobby Holloway of Graham and CL. Holloway of LaGrange, Ga.,; two sisters,

Vivian Jackson of Carrollton and Wilma Wiggins of Bowdon; seven grandchildren;

two stepgrandchildren and four step great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lovejoy, a

native of Cleburne County, was retired from Lamar Manufacturing Co. She was

a member of Union Hill Baptist Church and was preceded by one brother, W.A.

Holloway. 



RAINEY, Centre, Al. Services for Annie Ruth Rainey. 64, will be Friday at

1 p.m. at Exie Congregattional Holiness Church. Burial will be in Hebron

Cemetery with Perry Funeral home in charge. The body will be at the home

of her son, Winford Rainey, at 1615 county Road 101,Centre, from 1 p.m. today

until noon Friday . Mrs Rainey died Wednesday in Dekalb Baptist Medical Center.

Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Nunnally and Ginger Edgeworth, both

of Centre; three sons, Ollie Albert Rainey of Rome, Ga., Winford Lee Rainey

and Wilburn Dan Rainey, both of Centre; two sisters Faye Webb and Aline

Fortenberry; both of Centre. 14 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren

and two great-greatgrandchildren. Mr. Rainey, a native of Chattanooga, Tenn

, was a retired nurse's aid She was a Baptist. 



WRIGHT, Oxford, Al. Services for Harvest Wright,70, will be anniunced by

Anniston Funeral Service. Mr. Wright died Wednesday at Regional Medical Center.

BRADLEY, Fairmont, Ga. Services for James Bradley, 90, will be today at 11

a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Calhoun, Ga., Burial will be in Paulding

Memorial Gardens near Dallas , Ga. , at 1:30 p.m. Mr. Bradley died Wednesday

at Cartersville Hospital. Survovors include three sons, David Bradley of

Fayetteville, Ga., James Melvin Bradley of Warren, Mich., and Daniel Bradley

of Dallas, Ga.; five daughters, Jo Townsend of Fairmont, Ga., Margaret Fields

of Florence, Eloise Bonds of Fairmont, Dora Carr of Kingston, Tenn. and Norma

Bush of Oxford; two sisters, Vivian Stephens and Nellie Grace Roberts, both

of Anniston; 20 grandchildren and several great- grandchildren. Mr. Bradley,

a Cherokee County native, was retired from the City of Jacksonville. He was

a member of the Open Door Baptist Church near Fairmont and was preceded by

his wife, Carrie Pauline Johns Bradley. 



BRYANT, Aiken, S.C. Memorial services for Hattie Sue Sexton Bryant, 87, will

be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Usrey Brown Service Chapel with Revs. Coile Scarborough

and Walter B. Rogers officiating. Burial will be in a private cemetery with

Usrey Brown Service in Charge. Mrs Bryant died Monday at Aiken Regional Medical

Center in Georgia. Survivors include two daughters, Juanita Dowlin-Brandon

of Harrisburg. Pa., and Sylvia Sexton Scarborough of Aiken , S.C.; ;one

stepdaughter, Margaret Bryant Braswell of Atlanta; three sisters, Mattie

Mae Walker of St. Louis, Judy Ree Summrall of Anniston and Willie Woodrow

Whatley of Saratoga, Ga. ; and nine grandchildren. Mrs Bryant was past president

of Pines Civic Club of Talladega, past president of Resident Council at

Pepperhill Nursing Center, First Resident of Pepperhill Nursing Home . She

was a member of the First Baptist Church of Talladega and the choir. 



BUCKNER, Anniston , Al. Graveside services for Clarence I. Buckner,92, formerly

of Birmingham, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Valhalla Cemetery . Valhalla

Funeral Home in Midfield is in charge. Mr. Buckner died Wednesday at Regional

Medical Center. Survivors include one daughter, Sharon B. Roberts of Anniston;

three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. CAMERON, Talladega, Al.

Graveside services for Hilda Frances Cameron, 80, will be today at 2 p.m.

in Sardis Cemetery in West Green with Rev. Ken Maddox officiating and Usrey

Brown Service in charge. Mrs Cameron died Thursday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include one son, Joe Cameron of Talladega. Mrs Cameron , a native

of Green County, live in Talladega for the past 11 years. She was retired

from Greensboro Manufacturing Co. and was a Baptist. 



CARPENTER, Buchanan, Ga. Services for Thelma Augusta Cottingham Carpenter,

92, formerly of Anniston, will be today at 3 p.m. at Hutcheson's Memorial

Chapel in Buchanan, wigh Rev. Kendra Grimes and Danny Hutcheson officiating.

Burial will be in Edgemont Cemetery in Anniston. Mrs Carpenter died Wednesday.

Survivors include nieces, nephews and other relatives. 



CARTER, Anniston, Al. Services for Dorothy Faye Carter,51, will be Sunday

at 2 p.m. at Wayside Baptist Church with Revs. Kenneth Ingram and Mike Phillips

officiating. Burial will be in Anniston Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family

will receive friends Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary

& Crematory. Mrs Carter died Thursday at her home. Survivors include

her husband, William Earl Carter,; two daughters, Carmen DeAnne Carter and

Gwendalyn Faye Carter, both of Anniston; two sons, Arnold Monroe Humphrey

and Jeffery Wayne Humphrey, both of Anniston; three sisters, Jenny Mae Pinkard

of Tennessee, Rosa Bell Dennis of Graham and Sally Argo of Anniston; six

brothers, Brooks Haynes Jr. and William Haynes, both of Glencoe, Alfred Haynes,

Chester Haynes, Edward Haynes and Vernon Haynes all of Annisto; one grandchild

and one stepgrandchild. Mrs Carter, a native of Anniston, was a member of

Wayside Baptist Church. 



DAVIS, Brownsmells, N.J. Services for Bevell "Sister" Davis,89, formerly

of Anniston, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with

Rev. J.E. Merriweather officiating. Burial will be in Edgemont Cemetery with

Anniston Funeral Services in charge. Mrs Davis died Sunday in Brownsmells,

N.J. Survivors include three sons, George Clifton Davis of Brownmills, Leon

Davis and Fred Davis, both of Anniston; two daughters, Evelyn Varner of

Detroitand Ruth Griffin of Anniston; two sisters, Lelia Byrd Williams and

Goldie Bryant, both of Jacksonville; and several grandchildren. Mrs Davis,

a long-time resident of Calhoun County, was a member of Friendship Baptist

Church. 



DRIGGERS, Edwardsville, Al. Services for Zeppie Lee Driggers, 88, will be

Saturday at 11 a.m. at Dryden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Arlin Ashley

officiaing. Burial eill be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Clay County. The family

will receive friends tonight from5-8and Saturday from 8a.m. until time of

Service at the funeral home. Mrs Driggers died Wednesday at Colonial Pines

Nursing Home in Oxford. 



GREEN, Cartersville, Ga. Services for Peggy Lee Green, 51, will be Saturday

at 1 p.m. at Usrey Brown Service Chapel, Talladega, with Revs Harvey Bowlin

and Phillip Jones officiating. Bruial will be in Salem Presbyterian Cemetery

in Talladega County. Mrs Green died Wednesday at Crawford Long Hospital in

Atlanta. Survivors include her husband, Clyde W. Green of Cartersville; one

daughter, Ananda Lee Green McKinney of Chesapeake, Ga.; one son,Wesley Dewayne

Green of Cartersville; her parents, Lawrence and Margaret Cosby of Talladega;

two sisters, Mary Jane Gaither and Patricia Ann Gaither, both of Talladega

and two brothersm Hardy Dean Cosby and Lawrence Clay Cosby Jr., both of

Talladega. Mrs Green, a native of Talladega County, lived in Cartersville

for the past 17 years, She attended the Church of God. 



HILL, Rock Mills, Al. Services for James A. Hill, 62, of RockMills will be

announced by Quattlwbaum Funeral Home. Mr. Hill died Thrusday at Randolph

County Hospital. 



KIRBY, Roanoke, Al. Graveside services for Berma White Kirby, 64, will be

today at 2 p.m. in Cedarwood Cemetery with Rev. Johnny Williams officiating

and Quattlwbaum Funeral Home of Roanoke in charge. Mrs Kirby died Thursday

at University Hospital in Birmingham. Survivors include her husband, Joe

Kkirby ; one daughter, Shelia Boyd of Roanoke; and one granddaughter. Mrs

Kirby, a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County had been employed

with Palm Beach Co. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Batpist Church. 



KIRKLAND, Bynum-Leatherwood Road, Al. Services for Jerry Kirkland, 54, will

be announced by Gray Brown-Service Mortuary&Crematory. Mr. Kirkland died

Thursday at his home. 



McGUIRE, Roanoke, Al. Services for Milford James McGuire,42, will be Saturday

at 2 p.m. at Deliverance Temple with Bishop C.L. Wilks officiating. Burial

will be in Sweethome Baptist Church in Five Pionts with Silmon Mortuary in

charge. Mr.McGuire died Ruesday at The Hospice Center of LaGrange, Ga. Survivors

include one daughter, Milffany J. McGuire of LaFayette; his mother, Willie

Mae McGuire of Roanoke; two sisters, Phyllis McGuire and Vickie Potts, both

of Roanoke;two brothers, SFC Jeffers McGuire of Honolulu and Jeff Nolan of

Roanoke. 



McMATH, Ashland, Al. Services for Radford McMath Sr. 82, will be today at

2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Ashland with Revs. Jack Drinkwater and

Randall Ingram officiating. Burial will be in Ashland City Cemetery with

Clay County Funeral Home in charge. Mr. McMath died Thursday at Lineville

Nursing Facility. Survivors include his wife, Mary McMath ; one daughter,

Charlotte Shepard of Ashland; three sons, Charles McMath of Columbus, Ga.,

Bill McMath of Jasper, Tenn, and John McMath of Stone Mountain,Ga; and seven

Grandchildren. Mr. McMath, a native and lifelong resident of Clay county,

was retired from the U.S. Post Office as a postal clerk and had been self-

employed as both an electrician and plumber at Home Supply Company. He was

a WWII veteran of the United States Marine Corps, a member of the Ashland

Rotary Club and a member of First Baptist Church of Ashland where he was

a deacon and member of brotherhood. He had also servid as church treasurer

for a number of years. NICHOLSON, Anniston Al. Services for Leslie H. Johnson

Nicholson,53, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with

Revs. Ollie English and Ross Reed Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Maple

Grove Cemetery with Ervin Funeral Chapel in charge . Mr. Nicholson died Sunday

at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Hazel C. Nicholson

; two daughters, LaToya Carter and Katrina Carter, both of Anniston; one

son, Cardale Bennett of Jonesboro, Ga.; his mother, Hilda Blackmore of Kalamazoo,

Mich.; five sisters, Barbara McGhee, Madinah Edmondson and Willette Peek,

all of Kalamazoo, Rosie McGhee of Calumet, Ill., and Jeanette Chestine of

Lithonia, Ga.; six brothers, Lawrence Nicholson of Manhattan, Kans., Victor

Johnson of California , Willie Shavers of Saginaw, Mich, VanJohnson, James

Nicholson, Leon Nicholsonm all of Kalamazoo, and three grandchildren. Mr.

Nicholson, a native of Ill. , was a trick driver for BFI Corporation. He

has served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.





PAULK, Anniston Al. Services for GEorge Washington Paulk,77, will be announced

by Anniston Funeral Service. Mr. Paulk died Sunday in Buchanan, Ga. 



PELL, Anniston, Al. Services for James Pell, 63, will be announced by Anniston

Funeral Services. Mr. Pell died Wednesday at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital.





SWANN, Roanoke, Al. Graveside services for John D. Swann, 84, will be Saturday

at 2 p.m. at Randolph Memory Gardens Cemetery with Rev. E.G. Clark and Brother

Junior Bowen officiating. Benefield Funeral Home in Weedowee is in charge.

Mr. Swann died Thursday at Randolph County Hospital. Survivors include one

daughter, Rudene Knight of Roanoke; one son, Edwin D. Swann of Wedowee; two

sisters, Ora Moody of Union City, Ga., and Sadie Potts of Valley; one brother,

Jess Swann of Opelika; and threee grandchildren. Mr. Swann a lifelong resident

of Randolph County, had been a self-employed carpenter, He was a member of

Mt Zion Christian Church. 



TIDMORE, Atlanta, Ga. Services for MildrenJ. Tidmore,93, of Atlanta will

be Saturday at 3 p.m. (EST)at Spitng Hill Chapel with Rev. John Beyars

officiating. Burial will be in Crestlan Memorial Park Cemetery. H.M. Patterson

Spring Hill Chapel in Atlanta is in charge. Mrs. Tidmore died Thursday. Survivors

include one daughter, Anne Tidmore of Atlanta; one son, Bill Tidmore of Warsaw,

Ind.; one Siste, Sarah Rogers of Anniston; four brothers, William H. Jordan

and Robert Jordan, both of Anniston, Lamar Jordan of Dallas and Tom Jordan

of Ft. Worth, Texas; and four grandchildren. Mrs Tidmore, a longtime resident

of Atlanta, was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. 



WEST, Jacksonville, Al. Services for Seymour West Sr., 96, will be Saturday

at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Jacksonville with Revs. John Holloway,

Fred Taylor and Dr. Will Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Moore Cemetery.

K.L. Brown Funeral Home & Crematory.is in charge. Mr. West died Thursday

at his home. Survivors include his wife, Lillian West ; one son, Seymour

West Jr. of Jacksonville; two sisters, Ava Sue Thackerson and Eunice Wilson,

both of Jacksonville; two brothers, Hubert West of Jacksonville and Clyde

West of Gadsden; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. West,

a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County,was in the comstruction

business all of his life. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church

of Jacksonville.

BROWN, Anniston, Al. Services for James Albert Brown,66, will be Sunday at

2 p.m. at Old Davis Town Church of God with Rev. Bobby Brooks officiating

and special speakers Leroy Brown and David Lipscomb. The family will receive

friends tonight from 6-8 at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary & Crematory.

Mr. Brown died Friday at Regional Medical Center. Survivors include his wife,

Betty Jean Brown ; a daughter, LaNita Kay Bryant of Heflin; a sister, Viola

Mills of Atmore; and eight brothersk Ransome Brown of Old Davis Town, Steve

Brown, Junior Brown and Claude Brown, all of Edwardsville, Johnny Brown and

Merion Brown, both of Heflin, William Brown of DeArmanville and Virgil Brown

of Iron City. Mr. Brown, a native of Cleburne County lived in Anniston most

of his life. He was retired from M&H Valve and was a member of Old Davis

Town Church of God. 



COOK Thomaston, Ga. Services for Florence Lacy Cook,90, formerly of Anniston,

will be Sunday at 2 p.m.EST at First Presbyterian Baptist Church of Thomaston

with Rev David Delph officiating. Burial will be in South View CEmetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9EST at Pasley- Fletcher Funeral

home in Thomaston. Mrs Cook died Thursday at Upson Regional Medical Center

in Thomaston. Survivors include two daughters, Jane Cook McAbee of Thomaston,

and Sonie Cook Lyles of Birmingham; four grandchildren and six

great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cook, a native of Birmingham, , was a homemaker.

She had lived in Anniston for severly years and had been employed at the

YMCA. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Baptist Church of Thomaston

and was thr widow of Gene Cook 



CULVER, Oxford, Al. Services for Gladys Mae Culver,82,will be Sunday at 2

p.m. at Dryden Funeral Home in Heflin with Rev. Harl Skipper ifficiating.

Burial will be in Cedar Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at

the funeral home tonight from 5-8 and Sunday from 8am until service time.

Mrs Culver died Friday at CitizensBaptist Medical Center in Talladega..

19 great-grandchildren. Mrs Driggers, a native of Clay County, was a resident

of Cleburne County since 1984. She was a member of Edwardsville Church of

God. 



GOODMAN, Boston, Mass. Services for Terrance Goodman, 56, formerly of Anniston,

will be announced by Ervin Funeral Chapel. Mr. Goodman died Tuesday in Boston.





HILL, Roanoke, Al. Services for James Alvin Hill, 62, will be Sunday at 2

p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Revs. Richard Baldwin and Horace

Harper officiating. Burial will folow in Wehadkee Cemetery. The family will

receive friends today from 1:30-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Hill died

Thursday at Randolph County Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Jackie

Pike Hill ; two daughters, Sharon Brown of Standing Rock and Sonya Hill of

Roanoke; a son, James Phillip Hill of Roanoke; three sisters, Jenell Glass

of Roanoke, Ina Satterwhite of Valley and Vena Holloway of Morrison Cross

in charge. Mr. Kirkland died Thursday at his home. Survivors include his

wife, Marjorie Arlene Kirkland ; eight sisters, Brenda Homesley and Ruth

Homesley, both of Anniston, Lela Mae Kirkland of Dothan, Eula L. Ashley and

Ann Warren both of Sylacauga, Shirley Bryant of Salt Lake City, Utah; Betty

Foshee of Ashland; and Sherry Brown of Ohatchee; and two brothers, Charles

Kirkland of Alexandria and Pierce Kirkland of Anniston. Mr. Kirkland , a

native of Talladega County, was a resident of Calhoun County most of his

life. He was a member of Leatherwood Baptist Church. 



LYNCH, Jacksonville, Al. Services for William Robert Lynch,71, will be Sunday

at 2 p.m. at Emanuel Holiness Church with Revs. Norman Smith, W.C. Keenam

and Gene Bledsoe officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at K.L. Brown Funeral Home

and Crematory. Mr. Lynch died Friday at Facksonville Hospital. Survivors

include his wife, Dora P. Lynch; two daughters, Rachel Amm Boots of Felicity,

Ohio, and Kimberly Sue Bowen of Jacksonville; a son, Robert Daniel Lynch

of Carrollton, Kky.; two sisters, Anna Maude McFadden of West Harrison, Ind,

and Nanette Hay of Cincinnati. Ohio; a brother Charles Leroy Lynch of Cincinnati;

seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Lynch, a resident of

Calhoun County for 20 years, owned and operated Bob's Air Cooled Engines.

He was a Navy vereran of WWII.

Mr. Medlin, a nativeof Calhoun County, was a member of Blue Mountain

Baptist Church, operated Medlin's Service Station for 40 years, and was

preceded by his wife, Pauline Medlin.

of his life, He was retired from the U.S. Army and from Anniston Army Depto.

He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars He was preceded by his

wife Bernice Bell, and two brothers, Donald Bell and Jackie Bell.

Centre, Al.    Services for Mary Allison Brooom,18, will be Thursday at 2

Miss Broom died Monday at Cherokee Baptist Medical Center.  Survivors

include her father, Patrick Broom of Centre, her mother, Linda Ray, of Centre,

her stepfather, Tony Ray; and her grandparents,Novella Broom and Herbert

and Polly Mayhall, all of Centre.   Miss Broom was a 1997 graduate of

Cherokee County High School and a freshman at Jacksonville State University.

She was a member of Centre First United Methodist Church and was

employed there in the day care program. She was preceded by her sister,

Tracy  Broom.

Walker died Tuesday  in Tampa.  Survivors include her husband, William

Walker of Tampa; a daughter, Mary Francis Waugh; three grandchildren, and

six great-grandchildren.  Mrs Walker was a native of Oxford and a resident for

83 years until moving to Tampa in 1994.She was a longtime member of the

First United Methodist Church in Oxford.

Fordham died Tuesday at his home. Survivors include his wife, Lovenia Pat

Fordham; a daughter, Linda Fordham Cox of Powder Springs, Ga.; a brother,

Jay Hugh Fordham of Trickem Valley; two sisters, Edna Fordham Brown of

Trickem Valley and Myrtle Fordham Crumley of Heflin;and three

grandchildren. Mr. Fordham, a native and lifelong resident of Cleburne County,

was a retired carpenter and home builder. He attended Crumley's Chapel

sisters, Marie Salmon of Warner Robins, Ga., Elzora Able and Rachel

Calhoun ,both of Ohatchee, Leola Sewell and Willi C. Ebert, both of Gadsden;

two brothers, Ray Harcrow of Ohatchee and Harvey Stallings of Farmington,

Mich.and four grandchildren.  Mr. Harcrow, a native of Ohatchee, was retired

from Apac and served in the Army National Guard, He was a member of the

Ohatchee Masons and was a Baptist.

Cedar Bluff, Al.  Services for Randy Gerald Hendon, 40, will be Friday at 1

p.m. at Perry FuneralHome Chapel with Rev. Bill Crane officiating. Burial will

follow in Salem Cemetery. Mr. Hendon died Monday.  Survivors include his

wife, Sherry Ann Richardson Hendon; A son, John Curtis Hendon of Cedar

Bluff ; a daughter, Miranda Ann Hendon of Cedar Bluff and his mother,

Audrey Armstrong Hendon.  Mr. Hendon, a native of Cherokee County was a

member of the Cedar Bluff Masonic Lodge and a Mirright with the paper mill.

He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded by his father, Enmon Curtis

Hendon.



JOHNSON,

Las Vegas Na.  Barry Kern Johnson,63,  formerly of Anniston died Dec.21,

1997 in Las Vegas.   Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Johnson ; two

stepdaughters, Julie Morgan of Las Vegas and Deborah Galarza of Lancaster,

Calif.; one step son, Jeff Rylant of Colorado Springs;; and two grandchildren.  

Mr. Johnson, a native of Anniston had spent the last 25 years traveling in most

parts of the country in connection with his job. he Graduated from Anniston

High School in 1952.He is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was a

lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War.

























McCARTY, 

Anniston Al.   Services for Tommy Austin McCarty,51, will be Friday at 11

a.m. at Gray Brown-Service Chapel with Rev. Jerry Erwin  officiating. Burial

will be in Forestlawn Gardens Cemetery.   Mr. McCarty died Tuesday at

Regional Medical Center.  Survivors include his wife, Louella McCarty ; a

daughter, Sandra Lynn McCarty of Anniston; a son, James Austin McCarty of

Anniston; his parents, Austin B. and Eulene C McCarty,both of Anniston; a

sister, Kitty McCarty Bussey of Coldwater; and a brother, Danny J. McCarty

of Anniston. Mr. McCarty, a resident of Anniston for most of his life, was

employed by the Anniston City Board of Education maintenance department. 

He was an avid fisherman and a 1966 graduate of Murphy High School in

Mobile He attended Harvest Church of God.

charge.  Mr. Meacham died Wednesday at Regional Medical Center,

Survivors include his wife, Odessa H. Meacham ; one daughter, Darlo McRay

of Talladega; two sons, Jimmy Meacham of Montgomery and William Anthony

Meacham of Talladega; one sister, Virginia Landers of Roanoke; five

grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr Meacham, a native of

Randolph County, lived in Talladega since 1960. He was a member ond

deacon emeritus of the First Baptost Church of Talladega. He was also a

member of Carpenters for Christ,

died TTuesday at Clay County Hospital.  Survivors include his wife, Marion

Parsons; three daughters, Jo Ellen Christensen of LasVegas, Christine Conville

of Lineville and Vidki Carter of Montgomery; a son , J. Lewis Blankenship of

Wetumpka; a sister, Alma Smith of Ashland; nine grandchildren and three

great-grandchildren.  Mr. Parsons, a native and lifelong resident of Clay

County, had been employed as a mechanic for 58 years with Wilbur Nolen

and John Wesley Sentell, owners and operators of Ashland and Lineville

Motor Companies. He was a Baptist.

Mr. Staples, a native and resident of Ragland, was retired fromthe city of Birmingham where he served as a security guard for 28 years. Mr. Aaron died Friday in Atlanta. Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy

Bruce Aaron of Everett, Pa., and three grandchildren.  Mr. Aaron had lived in

Piedmont most of his life. He owned and operated Allison Theater in Piedmont

and Bama and Skyway drive-ins in Anniston.

and three great-grandchildren.  Mr. Coley, a native of Clay County and a

resident of Anniston most of his life, was a retired automobile dealer, a veteran

of WWII and member of the Church of Christ.

grear-grandchildren  Mr. Thompson was a native of Cleburne County and

resident of Douglasville for the past 27 years.

be Monday at 2 p.m. at Jacksonville City Cemetery with William B. Kughn

officiating and K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory in charge.  Mrs

Word died Friday in Anniston,  Survivors include a daughter, Tami Shodoan,

of Anniston, ; two sons John Gary Word of Nashville, Tenn., and William

Curry Word of Oxford; two brothers, Eugene Wilson and James Wilson, both

of Jacksonville,; six grandchildren   Mrs. Word lived most of her live in

Anniston. She had worked at Snow's of Oxford and at Bynum Drug Store,

She was a member of the Colvin Street Church of Christ.

Sunday at his residence after an extended illness.  Survivors include his wife,

Mevline Calhoun Adamson; a son Chuck Thompson; two brothers, Milam

Adamson and Wayne Adamson, all of Roanoke, twograndsons, and one great

grandson   Mr. Adamson, a Randolph County native and lifelong resident. was

a veteran of WWII and a member of Bethany Lime Church.

Anniston; a brother Barney Hendley, and three grandchildren.  Mrs Singleton

lived most of her life in Savannah. She retired from Moses Jackson Elem.

School  and was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church of Savannah.

Columbia, S.C.   Services with military rites for retired Army Agt. William

Lorn Smelcher Fr., 72, formerly of Calhoun County, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m.

at First Church of Gad, Covenant Road, with entombment in Greenlawn

Memorial Park Mausoleum.  Dunbar Funeral Home, of Columbia is in charge.

Sgt Smelcher died Saturday.  Survivors include his wife, Leona Preston

Smelcher ; a son, William L Smelcher Jr. of Cayce; two daughters, Kay Diama

Hale and Nancy Papas ,both of Columbia; a brother, James Smelcher of

Anniston; two sisters, Frances Gable of Anniston and Mary Lewis of Flordia.

10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  Sgt. Smelcher, a native of

Calhoun County, was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars,

was retired from the South Carolina Department of Corrections and was a

member of First Church of Go,Covenant Road.



SPARKS, 

Anniston Al. Private graveside services for Theo Eugene Sparks,82, are today

at 3:30p.m. at Forestlawn Mausoleum, with Gray Brown-Service Mortuary

and Crematory in charge. Mr. Spards died Sunday at his residence.  Survivors

include his wife, Faye Robinson Sparks ; two daughters, Genie Sparks of

Anniston and Helen J. Sparks of Birmingham; a son , Theo Eugene Sparks Jr.

of Birmingham.  Mr. Sparks,a native and lifelong resident of Anniston, was a

member of the First United Methodist  Church of Anniston. He was a retired

from Anniston Army Depot.

of Alabama Midical Center in Birmingham. Survivors include his mother,

Ruthie Askew of Roanoke; his wife, Ruby Askew; one daughter, Vanessa

Askew of Roanoke; and two stepsons, Ronald Banks and Andre Banks, both

of Roanoke Mr. Askew was preceded by his father, Jessie Askew.

officiating. Burial will be in Clay County Memory Gardens. Mrs Gibson died

Sunday at Clay County Hospital.  Survivors include two sons, Elwyn Gebson

of Mountain Commumity and Uloan Gibson of Lineville; 11 grandchildren and

15 great-grandchildern  Mrs Gibson, a lifelong resident of Clay County, was a

homemaker and a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. She was

preceded by her husband, Lumas Gibson , and one son, Clyde Gibson.

Anniston, Al.  Services for Leona Haynie Haynes,85, will be Wednesday at 1

p.m. at Gray Brown-Service Chapel with Rev. Aton Parris officiating. Burial

will be in Oak Bowery Baptist Church Cemetery.  Mrs Haynes died Sunday in

Eastaboga.  Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Haynes Spendlove of

Eastaboga, one son, Olan M. Haynes of Anniston; three grandchildren and five

great-grandchildren.  Mrs Haynes was a life long resident of Calhoun County.

She was preceded by her husband, Olan A. Haynes.







HITHCOX, 

Tarrant, Al.   Services for onnie Hithcox, 77, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at

Chapel Hill Funeral Chapel, Pell City, with Rev. Doug Ford officiating. Burial

will be in Macedonia Baptist Cemetery in Ragland. Mr. Hithcox died Monday

in Birmingham.  Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Watson of Tarrant

and Vickie Wilson of Hoquim, Wash.; one son, Eugene Hithcox of

Piedmont;one stepdaughter, Renee Lehr of Ragland; two sisters, Geneva Day

of Mooky and Margaret Portwood of Ragland; one brother, Lelas Hithcox of

Ragland; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter   Mr. Hithcox, a

native of Ragland, was a resident of Tarrant for the past four years. He was a

disabled Navy vereran of WWII where he received numerous medals and

homors including a purple heart. He was a lifetime member of DAV and of the

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6652. He was a Baptist.

home.  Survivors include his father, Ed Hull of Wedowee,one sister, Jean H.

Parker of Franklin, Ga. and two half-sisters, Gladys Leundowski of Tampa.

p.m.-1:30 p.m. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. in Steele Methodist

Cemetery.  Mrs Hyatt died Sunday i Biloxi , Miss.  Survivors include her

husband, Willie Hyatt; three daughters,Paulette Fuller of CarbonHill, Rita

Barbour of Birmingham and Barbara Gentry of Biloxi, Miss; three sons, Robert

Brown of Louisiana, Donald Brown and Gary Brown , both of Leeds; one

stepdaughter, Diane Kay of Ragland, two stepsons, James Willie Hyatt and

Roger Dale Hyatt of Birmingham ; three sisters Ruth Carden of Steele,

Rosemary Hollingsworth of Ashville and Lois Beets of Sylacauga; one brother,

Roy Hollingsworth of Steele; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 

Mrs Hyatt , a native of Steele, was a resident of Ragland for the past 10 years.

She was a homemaker and a member of Dearman Baptist Church of Steele.

Walker of Austin.  Mr Morgan, a native and lifelong resident of Piedmont, was

retired from Kimberly -Clark Corp. He was a charter member of the coffee

club at the Huddle House and Gateway Restaurants in Piedmont.

grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Mr. Nimon, a native of Polk

County, Ga. had in the timber industry.  He was preceded by one daughter,

Rosie Lee Johnson, and one brother, Ed Nimon.

O'Neal of Oxford; one stepson, R. Dan Johnson of Powder Springs, Ga.; one

Mr. O'Neal, a native of Talladega County, was a resident of Oxford for 42

years He was a Charter Member of the FOP Lodge #4, the American Legion

Post # 26, and the Coldwater United Methodist Church.

Monday at Regional Medical Center. Survivors include one daughter, Faye

Gabriel of Alexandria; two sons, Jerry Bryant of Weaver and Eddie Bryant of

Oxford; one sister, Hannah McGinnis of Gainesville, Fla.; two brothers, Harry

Clark and Rex Clark, both of Weaver; her primary caregiver Jean Bonds; 10

grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Bryant, a native of Calhoun

County, was retired from Utica Mill after 20 years of service. She was a

member of First Baptist Church of Weaver.

Care Center.  Survivors include his wife, Jeroline Shelton Ellis ; two sisters,

James Ellis of Richmond, Va.,and Hubert Ellis of Fairhope. 

Mr. Ellis , a native of Coffee County, was a resident of KTalladega most of his

life, He was retired from Industries for the Blind. He was a member ofFirst

Baptist Church of Talladega and the Jack Hethcox Sunday School Class

 Falkville, Al.  Services for Mary R. Ferrario, 79, will be Thursday at 11 a.m.

Mrs. Ferrario died Monday at a Falkville nursing home. Survivors include one

Fla; one grandson and one great-granddaughter

Anniston, Al. Services for William L. "June" Garrett, 71, will be announced by

be in Union Methodist Cemetery. Mr. Hooper died Monday. Survivors include

his wife, Fannie Sue Hooper of Leesburg; two daughters, Velma Sue Hale of

Leesburg and Elizabeth Arthur. of Illinois; eight grandchildren and 18 great-

grandchildren. Mr. Hooper was a native of Cherokee County.

Standing Rock, Al. Services for Frank Miles, 79, will be today at 11 a.m. at

will be in Randolph Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Miles died Monday in

Valley.  Survivors include one daughter, Opal Wingo of LaGrange, Ga.; one

son, Claxton Miles of Valley; two brothers, Jack Miles of Wedowee and

Collie Miles of LaGrange; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 

Mr. Miles, a Randolph County native, was retired from West Point Pepperell.

He was a WWII Army veteran and was a member of Standing Rock

Methodist Church. He was preceded by his wife, Lucy Harvel Miles.

Tallapoosa, Ga..   Services for Cecil V. Morris, 88, were Jan 15th at Miller

Funeral Home in Tallapoosa with Roland Brown and Darrell Gooden directing.

Burial was in Hollywood Cemetery. Mr.  Morris died Jan. 12 at his home.

grandchildren.  Mr. Garrett was retired from Anniston Army Depot and had

taught school at Othelia School in Munford for several years. He was veteran

and a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Anniston, Al. Services for Guy Richard Harris,79, will be Friday at 10 a.m. at

Gray Brown-Service Mortuary Chapel with REv. Paul Hunter officiating.

Burial will be in Pilgrim Rest Cemetery in Southside.  Mr. Harris died Tuesday

at his home.  Survivors include two brothers, Claude Harris and Aulsey Harris

both of Gadsden. Mr. Harris, a native of Etowah County , had served as

minister of several Baptist Churches in the area.  He was a member of

Meadowbrook Baptist Church and ws preceded by his wife,Ethel C. Harris.

Carpenter was a VietNam veteran a Purple Heart recipient and a member of

died Monday at Regional Medical Center.  Survivors include; two daughters,

Mary Smith of Killeen, Tx. and Sarah Morgan of Detroit, Mich.; two sons,

Williams Copeland and Gerald Hutch, both of Anniston; and 16 grandchildren.

Mr. Copeland was a member of Haven United Methodist Church. He was

preceded by his wife, Loraine Hutchings Copeland.

Oxford, Al.   Services for Noah E. Crumley,75 will be today at 11 a.m. at

Lakeview Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Starling officiating. Burial will be in

the Crossville Methodist Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home in charge.  Mr.

Crumley died Wednesday at his home  Survivors include his wife, Joyce

Crumley ; two daughters, Jnet Loomer of Springfield, Va.,and Jennifer B.

Poore of Oxford; two sons El Lamar Curmlwy and Conner W. Crumley, both

of Oxford; two sisters, Irene White of Gadsden and Dortha Knight of

Detroit and Thomas B. Crumley of Crossville; five grandchildren ,two grear-

grandchildren  Mr. Crumley, a native of Dekalb County, was a resident of

Oregon; two sisters, Ruby Fornwalt and Jewell Harrington, both of Georgia;

one brother, Rev. James E. Gunnells of Anniston; 16grandchildren and several

great-grandchildren. Ms Gunnells, a native of Anniston, Was a resident of

Talladega, Al.  Services for Willie Gertrude Hardy Headen, 90, will be

Saturday at noon at Africa Missionary Baptist Church, Talladega, with Rev.

William Threatt officiating, Burial will be in the church cemetery with Terry's

Metropolitan Mortuary in charge.Mrs. Headen died Jan.23 at her home. 

Survivors include three daughters, Martha Lee Headen, Lois Barclay and

Mary Duncan, all on Talladega; two adoped daughters, Joyce Chapman of

Talladega and Betty Burton of Detroit ; three sons, John D. Headen,, William

Junior Headen and Richard Samuel Headen, all of Talladega; and 29

grandchildren.  Mrs Headen, a life long member of Africa Missionary Baptist

Church was a former employee of the Alabama Institute of the Deaf and Blind.

She was preceded by her husband and three children.

Mr. Robertson died Tuesday at his home.  Survivors include four daughters,

Oxford;one son, George William Scott Robertson of Seattle; one sister, Irma

Robertson, a native of Georgia, was retired from the insurance industry and

was a Navy veteran of WWII He was a former member of the Anniston

Jaycees and a member of the Life Underwriteres Association . He was a

  Mr. Turner died Wednesday at University Hospital in Birmingham. Survivors

Wellington;; his parents, James O and Imajean Turner of Old Davistown; one

Mr. Turner, a native of Tift County, Ga., was a resident of Wellington for 10

Suzanne Schuessier of Roanoke; and two grandchildren.  Dr. Ussery was a

native and lifelong resident of Randolph County. He was a UAB Medical

Schoo graduate and servid his residency at Carraway Methodist Medical

Center in Birmingham. He procticed in Randolph County all of his career and

was chief of staff and srugery at Randolph County Hospital for many years. He

served as a deacon for First Baptist Church of Roanoke.

A Cave Springs,Ga. native Mrs Wood had lifed in Anniston for

resident of Weaver for 24 years. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross,

Associaation Chapter 62, Women's Army Corps, Fort McClellan, and was a

Catholic. She was preceded by two husbands John Dee Tubbs Jr and Earl

Cochrane.

be in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.    Mrs Dempsey died Saturday at

Regional Medical Center.  Survivors include two daughters, Ruby Watts and

Ruth Freeman both of Anniston; three sons, William H. "Bill" Dempsey and

Jerry B. Dempsey, both of Anniston,and W.T. Dempsey, of Lineville; three

sisters, Myrtle Mullally, Jencie Buchanan and Leada Jones, all of Oxford; and

22 grandchildren.   Mrs Dempsey was preceded by her husband, William R.

Dempsey, a son Russell T Dempsey, and a daughter, Cathering Cardwell. 

Ahe was a livelong resident of Calhoun County and was a Jevohah's Witness.

Hiram, Ga.  Services for Ruby Jewell Freeman, 84, formerly of Talladega, will

Talladega Funeral Home in charge.  Mrs. Freeman died Friday in Austell, Ga.

Maure of Hiram; two sons, Harlis Fletcher Haynes of Anniston and David

Farrell Freeman of Minnesota; and 12 grandchildren.  Mrs Freeman was a

homemaker and a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church, where she

Crane of Leesburg; three sisters, Gaynell Benefield, Joyce Hicks of Fort Payne

and Ruth Collins of Rainsville; two brothers, Doyle Parker of Fort Payne and

Thurman Parker of Collinsville; two grandchildren and several nieces and

nephews.  Mr. Parker, was self-employed plumber and a member of the

Holiness church. He was the son of the late Eugene and Cora Duncan Parker.

Forrester's Chapel with Rev. Gordon Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the

adjoining cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge.  Mrs Price died

Friday at Florida Living Nursing Center in Apopka,Fla.  Survivors include

three daughters, Mavis P. Johnson of Wedowee, Agens Green of Lithia

Springs, Ga., and Jane Yeackle of  Longwood ,Fla. ;two sons, Billy Price of

Mobile and jimmy Price of Gautier, Miss; two sisters, Ozell Collins and Annie

Burrow , both of Smithville, Miss.; a brother, Bill Burrow of Smithville; 11

grndchildren, 20great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Mrs

Price a Randolph County Native was the daughter of the late Daniel Hugh and

Lou C Knight Burrow. She was a homemaker and  a member of Corinth

Congregationgal  Christian Church.



ROLLINS,

Heflin, Al. Services for Bradues Harvil Rollins. 72, will be today 2 p.m. at

Dryden Funeral home Chapel with Rev. Jackie Taylor officiating. Burial will be

in Liberty Hill Cemetery. Mr. Rollins died Friday at Cleburne County Nursing

home. Survivors include a brother, Sammy Joe Rollins of Abel; and a sister,

Nancy Ann Sprayberry of Clay County.  Mr. Rollins was a native and lifelong

resident of Cleburne County and A retired a sawmiller. 



SHINN,

Anniston Al.  Graveside services for Ann Dowing Shinn, 76, will be Monday

2p.m.with Rev. Billy J. Reding. officiating. Burial will be in Forestland Gardens

with Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory in charge,  Mrs. Shinn

died Saturday at her residence.Survivors include three daughters, Landy

Forbes of Winston-Salem, N.C., Susie Shaw of Anniston and Lynne

McClellan of Lincoln; a son, Lewis Shinn of Anniston; 11 grandchildren and 12

great-grandchildren.  Mrs Shinn, a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun

County, was retired with 27 years of service form Fort McClellan in civil

service and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Anniston . She

was preceded by her Husband, Lilburn M. Shinn and son Lilburn M. Shinn Jr.



SMITH,

Anniston, Al.    Margaret N. "Cookie" Smith, 71, died Widnesday at Regional

Medical Center. Survivors include a son, Michael W. Smith of Atlanta; and a

granddaughter,, Courtney M. Smith of Atlanta.Mrs Smith was a native of New

York and a resident of Anniston for 50 years. she was retired from Regional 

Medical Center, and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. 









SPRAYBERRY,

Lineville, Al. Services for William Clayton "Johnny" Spriybetty,82, will be

Monday 11 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Home Chapel with Revs.L.C. Harris and

Jerry Brownlee officiating . Burial will follow in Clay County Memorial

Gardens.  Mr. Sprayberry died Saturday at Regional Medical Center. 

Survivors include his wife, Eva Mae Sprayberry ; a sister, Sarah Rooks of

Delta; a brother, Jesse Lee Sprayberry of Somerset,, Calif; and a several

nieces and nephews.  Mr. Sprayberry was a native and lifelong resident of

Clay County. He worked for Hodges Construction for 32 years and was a

veteran of WWII, a member of The DeArmanville Baptist Church and the

Hardy Howle Masonic Lodge #459

Heflin, Al.  Services for Chloe Holmes White,81, will be Monday 2 p.m.at

Heflin First United Methodist Church with Rev. Lamar M. Davis officiating.

Burial will be in Heflin City Cemetery with Dryden Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs White died Saturday at her residence.Survivors include her husband,

Carlos H. White ;two daughters, Virginia Green of Anniston and Aurelio Cook

of Odenville; two brothers, Warren Holmes of Oxford and Enos Holmes of

Bynum; a sister, Rachel Hobby of Brandon, Miss.; and four grandchildren.

Mrs White, a native of Randolph County and resident on Cleburne County most of her life.was a member of Heflin First United Methodist Church and was a former teacher of the Mattie Williams Sunday School Class.

charge.  Mrs. Dickert died Saturday at Regional Center. Survivors include her

husband, Hogan Dickert; two daughters, Sharon Dickert Dillard of Birmingham

and Mary Ann Dickert Pegues of Peachtree City, Ga.; a son Hogan Michael

Dickert of Riverside; four grandchildren,    Mrs. Dickert was a lifelong resident

of Anniston.



GUNN,

Roanoke, Al.   Services for Ralph Cook Gunn,74, are today at 2 p.m. at First

Baptist Church with Dr. Douglas Turner and Rev. Larry Armstrong officiating.

Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral

Home in charge. Mr. Gunn died Saturday at Hospice LaGrange.  Survivoes

include his wife, Cleola Cline Gunn of Roanoke; three daughters, Cecelis

Tinney and Debbie Revis of Roanoke, and Ruth Holley of Clayton; a son John

Gunn of Roanoke; two sisters, Louise Tidwell and Maxine Brumbeloe, both of

Roanoke; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Gunn was preceded

by Patty Hendon Gunn and four brothers, Hubert Gunn, Pervis Gunn, Earl

Gunn and Raymond Paul Gunn; and one sister, Mattie Will Gunn.  A retired

rural letter carrier, Mr. Gunn served Randolph County as sheriff from 1954 to

1962.. He was in the U.S. Naval Reserve and a member of the First Baptist of

Roanoke and Roanoke Kiwanis Club.

Wedowee, Al. Services for Felton Heard,85 are today at noon at Bethlehem

Primitive Baptist Churchin Wedowee, with Rev. Thomas Knight officiating.

Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Silmon Mortuary of Roanoke in

charge.  Mr. Heard died Friday.  Survivors include a son, Edward L.

Woodgett and a daughter,Elvira W. Foster, both of Chattanooga, Tenn., a

brother, Lorenza Heard of Chattanooga; two sisters, Emma Carter of

Chattanooga and Exie Johnson of West Palm Beach,Fla. and his stepmother,

Kitha Heard of Wedowee.

Lineville, Al. Services for Virgil Hunter,,74 , will be announced by Garris

Funeral Home.  Mr. Hunter died Saturday at Clay County Hospital in Ashland.

charge.  Mrs Mulkey died Saturday at Randolph County Hospital.  Survivors

Roanoke and Beadie Kelly of Valley; a brother Other McDaniel of LaGrange,

Ga.; 10 grandchildren ; 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great-

grandchildren Mrs. Mulkey was a Randolph County native and lifelong

resident. She was a monemaker and a member of Woodland Church of God.

She was preceded by a daughter, Beulah Baldwin; a son, Marian Baldwin and

her husband, Dorsey Baldwin

Alezandria, Al.  Graveside services for Mark Scott Newman,17, will be

and K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory in charge.  Mr. Newman died

Sunday in Calhoun County.  Survivors include his mother, Cheryl Maye

Shoemaker of DeArmanville; his father, Gary Newman of Anniston; three

sisters, Heather Newman Nailor and Becky Newman both of Batae, Maine,

and Betsey Cochran of Birmingham; two brothers, Tyler Shoemaker and

Landon Shoemaker, both of DeArmanville, a grandmother, Sara Borrell of

Anniston; and a grandfather, Grover Maye of Anniston.

Birmingham, Al.   Services for Calvin Herman Perry, 72, will be Tuesday at 2

Hospital.

Ashland, Al.   Services for Edna Lorene Taylor, 52, are today at 2 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church with Revs. Eichard East, Jessie Taylor and Roy Hurst officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge.  Mrs Taylor died Sunday at the Clay County Hospital .  Survivors include two sons, Kenny Taylor of Newsite and Freddy Taylor of Kellyton; two granddaughters,  and a grandson.  Mrs Taylor, a native of Tallapoosa County and a long-time resident of Clay County, worked in Quality control at Russell Corp.

for 28 years. She was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Ranburne, Al. Services for Alvin Thomas "Sam" Deese,96, will be today at 2

p.m. at Crumley's Chapel Church of God with Revs. W.H. Ford and O.V.

Sewell officiating. Burial will be in the Church cemetery.  Mr. Deese died

Sunday at Regional Medical Center.  Survivors include three sons, Darence

Deese, Byron Deese and Kenneth Deese, all of Ranburne; four daughters,

Mildred Ridley of Buchanan, Ga. and Vernell Smith, Helen Brooks and Oudia

Spruell , ann of Ranburne; one brother,William Deese of Carrollton , Ga.; two

sisters, Daner Miles of Carrollton and Mazell Foster of Columbus, Ga.; 19

grandchildren ; 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. 

Mr. Deese, a native and lifelong resident of Cleburne County, was a retired

farmer and was a charter mmember of Crumley's Chapel Church of God. He

was preceded by his wife, Lillie Deese, and a son, Othelia Deese.

Waldorf, Md.  Services for Derek Monzel "Zook Hall, 34, formerly of

Anniston, will be announced by Ervin Funeral Chapel .  Mr. Hall died

Thrusday at his home.

Choccolocco, Al. Services for Joe C. Hardegree, 80, will be Wednesday at 2

p.m. at Parker Memorial Baptist Church with Revs. Wallace Green and David

King and Dr. Billy Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Harmony Baptist

Church. The family will recieve friends tonight from 6-8 at Gray Brown-

Service Mortuary &Crematory.  Mr. Hardegree died Monday at Regional

Medical Center.  Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Hardegree ; one

daughter, Pat Brownell of Anniston; three sons. Eddie Hardegree of Kentucky,

Bobby Hardegreee of Anniston and Billy Hardegree of Choccolocco; two

sisters, Kate Hardegree of Ashland and Sara White of Birmingham; six

grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter, Mr. Hardegree , a natove of

Ashland, was a resident of Choccolocco most of his life. He was a Navy

Seabees veteran of WWII and was retired from Fort McClellan and Calhoun

County Board of Education . He was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist

Church, He was preceded by Eunice Green Hardegree, the mother of his

children.

















MARTIN,

Oxford, Al. Services for Alice E. Martin, 88, formerly of Chosea Springs, will

be today at 2 p.m.at Gray Brown-Service Chapel with Revs. Troy Craig and

Don Barber officiating. Burial will be in Chosea Springs Cemetery.  Miss

Martin died Sunday at Colonial Pine Nursing Home. Survivors include two

sisters, Edith Martin of Oxford and Dalma Gauntt of Munford ; and three

brothers, Lindsey Martin and John W. Martin, both of Chosea Springs, and

Hubert Martin of Anniston.  Miss Martin, a lifelong resident of Calhoun

County, was retired from Anniston Army Depot with over 20 years of service.

Sylacauga, Al.  Services for L.O. Mills, 85, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at

Clay County Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Zenus Windsor officiating. Burial

will be in Olive  Baptist Church Cemetery . the family will receive friends

tonight from 5:30 until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Mr.

Mills died Sunday at Coosa Valley Baptist Medical Center. Survivors include

his wife, Ethel Mills of Sylacauga; two daughters, Bertha Lacrosse of

Burlington, Wis., and Sue Waites of Winterboro.; four sons, Earl Mills of

Anniston, Orville Lee Mills of Ashland, Lee Mills of Winterboro and Jerry

Mills of Appleton, Wis.; three sisters, Bertha Galdden of Oscela, Ark., Marie

Martin of Memphis, Tenn., and Midgie Dixon of Fisher, Ark.; seven

grandchildren and five great-grandchildren Mr. Mills , a native of Meridian,

Miss., lived most of his life in Clay and Talladega Counties . He was retired

from Anniston Army Depot, had previously been a member of Masonic Lodge

#356 F&AM of Ashland, and was a member of Plainville Baptist Church on

Winterboro.
