The Mason Cemetery

This catalog of the Mason Cemetery was conducted on Sunday, October 31, 1999 by Jim Garrett and his son, Chris Garrett. This cemetery is located just off of route 29 East. Turn on Mason Cem Road at mile marker 14 just before the county line. Proceed .9 of a mile and you will see the cemetery, a shelter house with tables and a well maintained cemetery. There is a reunion held the last Sunday of each October at the cemetery. It is a potluck. I can be reached at jsjdgarrett@worldnet.att.net or 407-273-5597.

Noah Hill Cemetery

Contributed by Lygia Dawkins Cutts, 1999.  Lygia Dawkins Cutts, 881 Weaver Road, Brewton, AL 36426

This cemetery is most likely long gone through the years. It was located close by where Mr. Noah Parker used to live and where Elim Church used to stand. It was on a high hill from where David Miller's CAME now stands, or was located South of Jordan's Bay. There were no tombstones, only sand rocks marked the graves. If anyone knows of any names of the persons buried in this lost cemetery, please contact me at Cuttstree@Net1inc.net

MAYO CEMETERY

This another one of those isolated cemeteries in the woods, located off Nalty Road (a dirt road which runs between Travis Road-Co. Road 55 and Co. Road 19)

Surveyed by Lygia Dawkins Cutts & Jeanette Dawkins Crawford in 1995. Contributed by Lygia Dawkins Cutts 19 MAY 1997.

MAYO, Mary M. w/o W.K. Mayo 17 AUG 1866 - 7 OCT 1897

MAYO, Norvelle Leigh son of W.K. & Mary M. Mayo 25 OCT 1896 - 29 MAY 1897

MAYO, Henry Verner son of W.K. & Mary M. Mayo 3 APR 1895 - 20 APR 1895

MAYO, C.Y. [Charles Young] 28 NOV 1819 - 19 APR 1898

MAYO, Mary 30 OCT 1828 - 3 JUN 1899

There several unmarked graves, about 10. Some look to be children. They will soon be lost to the woods.

Notes: C.Y. Mayo was a brickmaker. There are buildings in this area which stand today built with his bricks. His initials CYM were stamped on his bricks.

Travis Cemetery (Old)

Located about 5 miles from Brewton on County Road 55 (Travis Road).

Surveyed and contributed by Lygia Dawkins Cutts on June 10, 1997 , Cuttstree@twav.com

Most of the graves in this cemetery are either unmarked or weathered so that they are not readable. Some have been marked with name only. If you have connections with anyone in this cemetery, I suggest that you refer to "Heastones and Heritages" by McFarland and Shelton. This book contains additional family info on this cemetery. I have also crossed referenced this cemetery with this book for names and dates that I could not read on some markers.
