Records of the Goodhope Primitive Baptist Church

County Highway 63

Covington County, Alabama

(located in section no. 1, township 6 north, range 16 East)

We have transcribed these papers to the best of our abilities to read and make out each one. Some of the copies were not good. So we have done the best we can. Each entry is as close to the way it was written as possible. We tried not to change even the misspelled words or add or subtract punctuation. Some portions of pages were missing and some words undecipherable. In such cases we have left question marks or (unreadable word) instead.

There are supposedly earlier records for the church, as well as, a personal journal kept by Daniel Dozier. As of this date we have not been able to locate them. They were not being kept with these records. If anyone has an idea where these records might be, we would appreciate your letting us know by contacting us directly or through a post on "Tracking Your Roots."

Mrs. Griffin L. Hardin

Dear Sir:
Mrs. J.B. Rodgers of Red Level tells me that you have the Church records on Good Hope Baptist Church.

According to a distant cousin of mine, Buck Taylor, of Andalusia one of my earlier ancestors helped organize the church in the early 1800's.

I am trying to gather information on my early ancestor for a family history, and would like to get certified or photstat copies, or some other authentic records on the minutes that concern our family - I do not know just how much work this would run into. I am not interested in all of the earlier records, just the one that mention the family.

Are there any marriage records, death records (or mention of ) in the church records?

I am interested in the TAYLOR (Wendell, Rebbecca, - wife of Wendell) John Arnett Taylor-Rebecca Carter, his wife; - these would be among the earliest records:) James, Taylor, and his wife-his son Council D. Taylor, who was the early church clerk, I am told.

Is there a mention of any CARTERÆs. Silas W. Carter, his wife-? Jack Washington Carter, Winifred his wife?; my g,great-Grandmother, Eliza M. Carter, her husband was William Taylor and my great-grandfather and Mother - John Jasper Taylor and Zannie Ann John - This would be about 1870's

Ther may not be too much in the records concerning these last folks, because I don not know that they were members of Good Hope, but I know the earlier ones were members.

Would you please let me know how much trouble it would be to check these earlier records, and if you would consider doing it? I will be glad to pay you a nominal fee for doing it.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Adena W. Hardin
