According to family records, Francis Lewis, I, was the son of John Lewis and Catherine Cory of Belvoir Co., VA, and grandson of Robert Lewis of Belvoir and Catherine Fauntleroy. Francis Lewis, I, married Lucy Dudley in Petersburg, VA. The following was taken from :Marriages and Deaths-1763 to 1820 Georgia Gazette written by Mary Bordarant Warren:

Francis Lewis died 8-5-1785 in Savannah, GA (issue dated 8-11-1785)

Mrs. _____ Lewis, widow of Francis Lewis, died 7-7-1791 (issue dated 7-14-1791)

New Notes..SEP 2003:
Lisa,

The incorrect information on Francis Lewis who married Lucy Dudley is on the
Lowndes County cemetery page.

Francis Lewis 1 was not the son of John Lewis and Catherine Cory. He was
the son of George Lewis of Amelia County, VA according to the will of
George Lewis. Francis also was not descended from Robert Lewis. Also Lucy
Dudley was the dtr of Edward W. Dudley of Amelia Co., VA according to his
will.

Also Francis Lewis 1 who married Lucy Dudley did not die in Savannah, GA in
1785 because I ordered the will of Francis Lewis who died in Savannah, GA
and he is a different Francis Lewis. Also the Mrs.______ Lewis that died in
Savannah, GA was not Lucy Lewis because Lucy Lewis witnessed the will of her
son William who died after 1804 in Hancock County, GA. The wife of the
Francis Lewis who died in Savannah, GA was named Christiana which is the
name in Savannah Francis' will.

If you wish me to provide you with proof of the above, please let me know.

These Lewises are very frustrating and I have been working on them since
1962.

The information in Lewis' Meriweathers, and their Kin states that Francis
Lewis 1 was the son of John Lewis of Halifax and his wife Catherine
Fauntleroy and that Francis was born in 1755 and this is definitely not
correct because Francis Lewis is not even named in John Lewis' will. John
Lewis' will names his wife Catherine, son John, dtr Sarah Taylor, dtr.
Apphia Allen.

I do hope this will be of help to you. There is so much misinformation
about these Lewis' that have been passed down from generation to generation
that no one bothered to check for proof.

The DAR will not accept any more applications showing John Lewis as the
father of Francis 1.

JULIAN, Allis Jane McQueen, first wife of Jacob C. Julian, 7-16-1838, 7-17-1865, no marker

Update provided by Robert, Cheryl and Davis Harrell in April 1998.

[VENABLE information provided by Rae Venable Calvert:  My Mother, Clara Gerald Owen Venable (b.16 Sep 1906; d.10 Feb 1997) is buried next to my Father, Nathaniel Julian Venable (1899-1956) in the Julian Cemetery. Also, my great-grandmother, Rachel Ann (McQueen) Julian's dates are: 4 July 1843 and 22 March 1928; the dates on the marker are incorrect. Her sister, Alice Jane (McQueen) Julian, was the second (not first) wife of Jacob Cicero Julian, and Rachel Ann was his third wife. Buried across the road on the old Samuel McQueen (Rachel's father's) plantation are Samuel McQueen and his wife, Susan Elizabeth Sawyer. Samuel's 1863 Will was probated in Lowndes County. There is a Julian/McQueen Family reunion/cemetery cleaning/picnic at the Cemetery on the Saturday before Mother's Day each year. Rae Venable Calvert P O Box 1425 Pearland TX 77588-1425]
